he's totally old-school (in a good way!). The only pedals I’m missing are the Mutron octave divider, and the MXR green box delay.

Years ago I bought a copy of Neil Young’s Weld, I’ve been searching for that tone for a long time. In terms of his tuner, i've seen him live a couple of times and one time he had this huge looking box with a meter that he looked like he used to tune from time to time. Here is my nearly complete Neil Young tribute rig. he also hates digital effects and said that "analog sounds are like pouring warm water over your head while digital sounds are akin to pouring a bucket of ice cubes over your head". He prefers amp distortion and not OD pedals (he's often dis'd the popular tubescreamer, etc), hence building the wizzer. if anybody's got the $$ to get a type of robot/wizzer built to adjust his amp automatically it'd definitely be neil young. he uses the wizzer for other distinct tones adjusting the deluxe amp itself. We examine Neil Young's signature electric and acoustic guitar tones and attempt to recreate them ourselves in this Legends of Tone post. I'd read in an interview that he said he gets several of his sounds using the vol & tone on his guitar. We're putting together an updated collection of the Guitar Geek rig diagrams from what we've been able to find online. essentially, each button on the red board is a preset that, when selected, the wizzer adjusts the volume and tone knob on the deluxe to specific settings to get different sounds (clean, OD, dist, etc). I believe that the red board is hooked up to the device atop the fender deluxe which he calls "the wizzer" - seriously.
